Judicial elections in Mexico:
a reflection on the institutional violence committed during their implementation

This text aims to contribute to the knowledge of the way in which, through the implementa- tion of a subversive constitutional reform, the Mexican legal system continues to proliferate the oppression of women. This critique is directed, specifically, towards the electoral magistrates who -through their sentences- committed institutional violence against three federal female judges who requested adjustment measures to remain in office until 2027. This is due to the fact that their different approaches make it impossible for their electoral participation to take place under equal circumstances.
Through an argumentative analysis, and using the methodology proposed by Alda Facio as the main working tool, the line of argument shared in the three judgments that resolved the cases of these judges was analyzed. This revealed that the decisions in question failed to consider a gender perspective, which ultimately resulted in institutional violence against the plaintiffs. This leads to the conclusion that this series of judicial decisions constitutes a regression in terms of gender and, therefore, in Mexican democracy itself.
